Celebrating Community Impact in Mansfield, MLCT's £3 Million Contribution in Social Value for 2024

Jan 22, 2025 |

We are thrilled to announce that More Leisure Community Trust (MLCT), in partnership with Serco Leisure is proud to announce it's impressive Social Value (SV) figures for 2024 for the Mansfield region. MLCT has contributed over £3 million to the region across it's four centres, Oak Tree Leisure Centre, Rebecca Adlington Leisure Centre, Water Meadows Leisure Complex and Warsop Health Hub. This achievement highlights the essential role leisure centres play in promoting health, wellbeing and community connection.

Social Value is the incredible impact that we create together – not just for you but for the entire community. When you visit your centre you are part of something much bigger than just your workout or swim. You are part of our movement to make everyone’s lives healthier, happier, and stronger.

How Do We Measure Social Value?

Measuring Social Value (SV) is all about capturing the fantastic ripple effects of physical and social activities on people and communities. Thanks to Moving Communities, a team backed by UK heavyweights like the Department for Culture, Media & Sport, Sport England, and the Sports Industry Research Centre, we’ve got a clever way to do it! The SV figure dives into the benefits, from boosting physical and mental health to building happier, stronger communities. It’s a brilliant way to show just how much community health and leisure initiatives matter, turning good moments into measurable impact!

The Role of Social Value in Community Health

With mounting pressures on the health service, the importance of proactive wellbeing initiatives has never been greater. The £3 million Social Value generated by MLCT in 2024 shows the benefits of its programmes and services in several key areas:

  • Increased Physical Activity - By offering diverse and inclusive fitness programmes, MLCT enables residents of all ages to engage in regular exercise, leading to better health outcomes and reduced healthcare costs.
  • Mental Wellbeing Initiatives - Through activities that promote social interaction, reduce isolation, and foster community cohesion, the Trust addresses mental health needs across the borough.
  • Health Education and Awareness - MLCT runs workshops and health campaigns that empower residents with knowledge about healthy lifestyles, nutrition, and overall wellness.

Brian Taylor, chair of MLCT said:

“These impressive SV numbers underscore the critical role local leisure centres play in promoting health and wellbeing within the community.

“Our customers are taking responsibility for their own health, and reaping all the mental and physical wellbeing benefits that come from staying active and connected to their community.”

Cllr Andy Burgin, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Leisure, said:

“Improving the health and wellbeing of our residents is a key council priority in our drive to improve the quality of life in this district.

“Our leisure centres and the Active Communities Programme, delivered in partnership with More Leisure Community Trust, play a crucial role in helping to achieve these objectives and it is very encouraging that they are succeeding in delivering such a significant amount of social value. With the new year now upon us why not take this opportunity to try out the great facilities we have in this area to make lifestyle changes that could keep you well or help you achieve better physical and mental health.”
